Consultation
The first step is to meet Dr. Goodwin in clinic for a consultation. This usually takes about 45 minutes. She will talk to you about your medical concern and review your medical records. If you need any additional testing such as blood work or imaging, then it can be ordered at this time. If you have records from other clinics or hospitals that are relevant, we can get them sent to our clinic (with your permission).
Diagnosis
Secondly, we gather all the information and make sure you understand your diagnosis. If you need surgery, we will make a plan for surgery. The surgery date is often chosen on the day of consultation, so you have a timeline to work with. We want to work with you to accommodate work and special life events.
If you have any new questions or concerns about your upcoming surgery, you can always call the clinic or return for a follow up visit to make sure the plan is clear.
Payment options
If you are using health insurance, then our team at Wasatch surgical will communicate with your insurance company to determine if you have coverage. We will also send the surgical records to your insurance company in a timely manner to help with the claim. Click HERE to see if your insurance is accepted by our clinic.
No insurance? No problem!
We offer competitive pricing for all our clinic consultations (office visits) and surgical procedures. If you don’t have insurance, or have a high-deductible plan, then you may want to consider a cash pay option. We accept cash, credit card and debit card payments. Surgery day!
The hospital will call you the day before surgery to give you a check in time and location. Click HERE to see which locations we offer surgery.
The morning of surgery you will come into the pre-operative area. You will meet your nurse, anesthesiologist and surgical team. Dr. Goodwin will also come to say hello and confirm the plan for the day.
Many surgeries are done as an ‘outpatient’, meaning you go home the same day as your surgery. You will go home with customized instructions to make sure you and your family and friends are comfortable caring for you after surgery. There will be an after hours emergency number for urgent questions that cannot wait until the next business day.
If your surgery requires an overnight hospital stay, ‘inpatient’ surgery, this will be arranged ahead of time with you and the hospital.
Recovery
We will let you know before your surgery how much time you will likely need for recovery. Depending on your age, health and type of surgery, this amount of time can be different for everyone. We will make sure you have a work or school documentation to submit if needed.
Post operative visit “Post op”
Most patients return to clinic 2 weeks after surgery. You will be given this appointment ahead of time, so you know what to expect. At your post-operative visit we will make sure to answer all questions and explain what the next few weeks will feel like.
